La Matanza en Los Estados Unidos

De vez en cuando alguien me pregunta si hay algo como la matanza del cerdo en los EE. UU. El otro día, un tío mío me recordó que en Minnesota (mi estado) tenemos una práctica similar cuando cazamos el ciervo en el invierno, cortamos la carne y la colgamos durante la noche. Pero, no es una fiesta o acontecimiento de la familiar como la matanza aquí.

Every once in a while someone will ask me if there is something like la matanza del cerdo in the US. The other day my uncle reminded me that in Minnesota we have a practice when we hunt deer in the winter in which we butcher the meat and hang it up outside overnight. But I do not think it is not a party or a community or family event like la matanza en Spain.

Después de buscar en internet he encontrado una tradición de la matanza en Nuevo Mexico. La matanza en Belén,  este es ya su 14º año y sigue un estilo similar a EE. UU. Esta fiesta se reclama ser la matanza más grande en el mundo con 17.000 personas asistiendo en 2013. Generalmente en el Sur hay mucha gente de países hispanohablantes, pero en Nuevo México las tradiciones hispánicas son más fuertes. Es interesante lo que rodea a la matanza en Belén, un discurso sobre la matanza y la importancia de ella: la comunidad, la historia, la tradición, la comida buena, etc.

But after searching the internet I have found a tradition of la matanza in New Mexico. La matanza in Belen, New Mexico is in its 14th year and in true American style claims to be the largest matanza in the world with 17,000 people attending in 2013. Generally in the Southern US there is a large number of people from a hispanic background, but in New Mexico the 'hispanic' traditions are kept alive more strongly than in other places. It is interesting because surrounding la matanza in Belen, is much of the same discourse about la matanza and it's importance: the community, history, tradition, good food, etc.
