El Museo del Cerdo

Los museos funcionan más que simplemente preservar una historia, una tradición y para enseñar estas cosas a otras personas. En los museos, podemos ver nuestros valores- las cosas pensamos en, aquellos que son importante a nosotros, reflectado en nosotros. Entonces la pregunta es ¿porque hay un museo del cerdo aquí? Y ¿Qué lo significa que hay?

Museums function more than to simply preserve a history, a tradition, and to teach these things to other people. In museums, we can see our own values- the things we think about, those things that are important to us, reflected back to us. Then the question is, why is there a museum of pigs here? And what does it mean that there is one?

El Museo del Cerdo lo dirige la familia del Virrey Parafox, y está formado de 11.000 de cuadros, figuras, libros, y documentos, que ha sido recolectado durante los últimos cuarenta años por misma familia. El objectivo del museo es para recordar el trabajo de la familia y para enseñar la importancia del cerdo en la historia.

El Museo del Cerdo was created and is managed by the family of the Virrey Parafox (owners of hotels and restaurants in town), and is composed of almost 11,000 painting, figurines, books and documents, that have been collected during the last forty years by the family. Its objective is to show the work the family has been doing, and to teach the importance of the pig in history.

En el Museo del Cerdo estas cosas son ensañadas (en parte) a la próxima generación durante visitas de grupos variados de niños de escuelas locales. Durante una de estas visitas, los niños y yo aprendimos sobre el cerdo y su importancia en la historia local. Una parada importante fue las partes del cerdo, y me sorprendió que los niños ya sabía muchos de las partes.

In the Museo del Cerdo these things are taught (in part) to the next generation during visits by various groups of children from local schools. During one of these visits, the kids and I learned about the pig and its importance in local history. One stop in the museum that was important was when we learned about the different parts of the pig, and I was surprised that already the children knew many of the names for the parts. 

Tener un museo dedicado solo al cerdo, quizás se puede decir que es un poco raro. To have a museum dedicated only to the pig is maybe a little strange, but when you look and see that there is a part of the pig in more or less everything- the food, the history, personal memories- it begins to seem a little more normal, almost obvious that it would exist here in this town, el site of the revival of la matanza.
